Wednesday, October 5, 2011CNN recently reported on the most popular Halloween costumes for October 2011. To gauge popularity, Reporter Jessica Dickler asked Halloween retailers what has been flying off the (in person and virtual) shelves most.
As it turns out, it seems that some recent events in pop-culture news are definitely influencing demand. While many may stick with classic costumes and tried and true sci-fi characters, many Halloween party goers and trick-or-treaters are taking their inspiration much of their inspiration from current events this year.
Among the most popular costume choices and characters is actor Charlie Sheen, otherwise known as “the Rock Star from Mars” as of late. Although Sheen has been in the public eye since the 1980’s his recent publicity for his eccentric lifestyle and philosophies really struck a chord with the public.
For this look, some are opting to simply throw on a disheveled suit or t-shirt and jeans, dark framed glasses, and to tousle their hair for that just got out of bed and ready to start partying again look. Others are opting to make it official with a Charlie Sheen mask complete with the actor’s well known mischievous grin.
Other popular costumes, especially for the pre-teen age group and up include pop-culture references like Katy Perry, Lady gaga, and, as you may have guessed, “Snooki” from the cast of the MTV’s hit reality series “Jersey Shore.”
The recent Angry Birds craze is also inspiring Halloween costume choices. The game or I-Phone app is extremely popular with people of all ages who plan to show how their fan-hood by dressing up as various Angry Birds Characters in bright colors such as red yellow and blue.
