At conventions, fans of specific comic books, series, and TV shows can mingle with other fans, meet celebrities, and immerse themselves in their favorite culture! Whether you’re a Trekkie, a fan of anime, or Marvel comics, chances are you share an affinity and appreciation for all things Sci-Fi and fantasy. That’s why Sci-Fi conventions such as Genericon, HeroesCon and Comic-Con draw in thousands of fans from around the world each year.
If you’re thinking about attending an upcoming Sci-Fi convention or costume convention for the first time, there’s no need to be nervous. Here we’ll share a couple tips of how to prepare for and “survive” your very first big event!
Tip 1 – Make a packing checklist. Aside from the usual things you pack when going on vacation, you’ll want to make sure you’re equipped with pens, water bottles, and a camera! Don’t forget the camera! You never know what fun sights you’ll see at a Sci-fi or costume convention. Why the pen? You’ll never know when you’ll want to snag an autograph!
Tip – 2 Cosplay if you want to truly immerse yourself into the fantasy world of your dreams! Never bring weapons or harmful paraphernalia or you’ll risk getting kicked out of the event, but do plan an awesome costume complete with safe accessories ahead of time.
Tip – 3 Check out the event schedule and plan which panels you want to attend ahead of time. Different panels represent different elements of pop culture. At panels, you’ll see interviews, previews of upcoming movies or TV series, and autograph sessions. Some panels can overlap, so you’ll want to prioritize ahead of time to get the most out of your convention!
