“some people were surprised to hear that Bane, a relatively obscure character in Batman's world, would get a starring role in "The Dark Knight Rises."… Online interest in the actor [Tom Hardy] soared an astounding 17,662% in one day. Searches for "tom hardy bane" posted equally impressive numbers. Clearly, folks want to know more about the bad guy.”
They mention that there was a somewhat smaller surge on searches for Anne Hathaway, who has been cast as Selina Kyle, Catwoman’s alter ego. MTV News offers a Bane 101 for those who are interested in finding out more about the character than the actor.
The other story spotted was about the NHL’s campaign in conjunction with Stan Lee known as The Guardian Project. To get kids from the internet and video game generation interested in sports, they’ve created a character to represent each team. Though existing hockey fans don’t really seem to get it, Yahoo Sports reports that, “the Guardian Project's Facebook campaign has generated over 1,000,000 votes from fans in an ongoing contest to see which Guardians are revealed on NHL.com each day.” So they’re reaching the intended audience.
