Halloween Cons: Horrors and Furries and Trekkies – Oh My!

If you should find yourself without a Halloween party to go to, there are plenty of Cons over Halloween weekend. For example, you can fly to Ireland and attend the Bram Stoker Dracula Halloween Horror Festival, held in the fitting surrounds of the gothic Clontarf Castle in Bram Stoker’s hometown.

Or you can attend ZomBcon in Seattle, Washington. There, you’ll be able to attend the Prom Night of the Living Dead, Seattle’s premier Halloween costume party. You can also learn zombie combat techniques, watch classic zombie flicks and hobnob with guests like Bruce Campbell and George Romero!

For those who want something a little more cuddly for Halloween, there’s FurFright in Connecticut. They have a full weekend of Halloween-themed events like parades, fursuiting, costume competitions, dances, and parties, plus room-to-room Trick-or-Treating. Not to mention the creepily named, but Halloween-appropriate, Dead Dog Party.

Oklacon is another Furry convention that’s happening Halloween weekend, in Oklahoma, but without the Halloween theme…though their theme, “The Great Depression” is plenty scary. That being said, Oklacon has the distinction of taking place outdoors. “Guests warm up around the campfire under the stars, hunt each other in games of Predator and Prey, and hike along the woody, winding trails of the park.”

The Great White North has some Halloween Cons too. In Winnipeg you’ll find The Central Canada Comic Con, where their Sci Fi/Pop Culture Convention guests include Ray Park, the guy under the scary black and red makeup of Star Wars’ Darth Maul. And on Canada’s East coast, you can check out Hal-Con in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where you can meet Star Trek’s Chekov, Walter Koenig and Next Generation’s Tasha Yar, Denise Crosby.

So there’s no need to spend Halloween handing out candy to trick-or-treaters! Put on your favorite Sci-fi costume, furry suit or just some zombie makeup and go have some fun!
