Wednesday, April 21, 2010OutlantaCon" may be a bad double-entendre, but it’s our way of saying that this con is billed as being a "geek event for Gay / Lesbian / Bisexual / Transgendered / Other fans". Their focus is on Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror, as well as having a strong gaming presence.
The con is scheduled to take place April 30 – May 2 in Atlanta, Georgia. One of their main events is Project Cosplay. Their description? “The gayest of all reality competition shows comes to Outlantacon! Join your hosts Heidi Plume and Tim's Gun as they lead a team of designers to create a new look for a group of models. Materials will be provided, and the designers will have a short period of time to create their look. Then the models will perform on the Outlantacon catwalk! Its sure to be — well — an interesting experience if nothing else! And if you want to show off your own costume, participate in our Masquerade and help entertain the troops while the designers are designing!”
Another of their highlights is the Syrens of the South, a burlesque show geared specifically to the geek audience. They do warn the unsuspecting, “expect to see one or two of your favorite comic book characters in situations you might have only imagined them in!”
In a blog post to their MySpace page, they said “Also, we have hooked up with the anime folks here in Atlanta and will have more anime programming this year (it was one of our most popular panels last year.)”
If you won’t be able to make it in person, you can still join the community by checking out their MySpace or Facebook pages. On FB they have over 349 fans, and on MySpace, 382. If you’re into this sub-sub-culture, then you’ll want to check it out.
