Monday, April 13, 2009G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is not slated to be released until late summer of 2009, but it never is too early to get into the spirit of things. Some of you may now be reminiscing about watching the cartoon after school as kids, but this new movie is going to be a live action feature film. Stephen Sommers is the director. He also did work on The Mummy and the Scorpion King movies, as well as Van Helsing.
The film promises to bridge the gap between die-hard fans and the uninitiated. We will all have a few more months to wait and see if it lives up to this promise. That is no easy task, since serious fans usually have pretty high expectations and those who are unfamiliar with a story need to be given enough background so that they can catch on.
In the meantime, you can have some G.I. Joe cosplay fun in anticipation of the movie. We have a G.I. Joe Cobra Commander costume. It comes in adult sized only (sorry, kids) and includes an all-in-one jumpsuit, belt and mask. The G.I. Joe Cobra Commander costume comes in a range of sizes-- from small to 5XL.
We heard that as the movie was being put together there was some uproar over the plot when some of the details leaked. This forced the studio to go back and re-think the plot. Apparently, with the push to go "global" they wanted to make G.I. Joe into some kind of international organization, having operatives report to something like the United Nations. Well, the word is that after protests, G.I. Joe is going to be what it was originally--an operation for "real American heroes."
