Cosplay Conventions are Creative Fun

Cosplay is not simply about escape (although it can certainly be that). It is a creative art form all its own, really. Dressing up as a character is not a passive thing at all. When you decide to put on a costume and go out to meet other people, you are actively participating in a kind of theater. The good thing is that you do not have any particular lines to memorize. And if you go to a cosplay convention, the spotlight will never just rest on you. Instead, you will be sharing it with many others.

Yes, when cosplayers decide to dress as a certain character and do their best to act as that character would, they are in a sense, trying to become someone else. But the truth is that you bring some of yourself to everything that you do. One person's characterization of Sailor Moon is not the same as someone else's. Even if two people stick to a basic Sailor Moon costume, they will differ in accessories or stance or even in the way they interpret the character.

And going to a cosplay convention is a great opportunity to get insight into the ways that other people view the character. Seeing other interpretations and getting to interact with others while in character can enhance your appreciation for that character's story.

But really, do you need more reasons to go to a cosplay convention? After all, aren't all of us looking for more ways to have fun? Those of you who have already been in on the fun know how what a great time you can have. For those of you who are thinking about it, but are a little hesitant, why not give it a try?
